For those of you in New South Wales, now is your opportunity to work with Glass Artist Sallie Portnoy! Details at the bottom of this post.
For those of you in Melbourne, Sallie’s work is currently on display in Artman Gallery’s Director’s Choice showcase.
Sallie Portnoy has worked in glass and ceramics for more than 20 years. She has taught children, teens and adults glass fusing, slumping, casting, mould making, mosaic, and ceramics. Sallie exhibits nationally and internationally and has won numerous awards and commissions for public art. She has taught many workshops around Australia & at The Glass Furnace in Turkey, the Corning Museum of Glass & Urban Glass in New York. She has been teaching workshops from her studio since 1987 and is currently represented at Artman Gallery, Melbourne.
Much of her imagery is based on mythology and inspired by mystical stories and abstract thought. The figure in her glass pieces has been used as a universal symbol of the vessel and the soul, and is a symbiosis of the female form and the artistic investigation of positive and negative space.
